Bark.London

HEAD OF GROWTH: Agency, Account Director (Remote-Office Hybrid)

You’re a leading paid media specialist who wants to help grow the fastest scaling DTC brands.

The Business

FIRSTLY, WHO ARE BARK.LONDON?

We Do Growth.
We’re a specialist remote-hybrid performance marketing agency for high growth ecommerce brands, with one aim: help businesses grow. Practically, we do this with best-in-class Paid Social, Paid Search ads; data & analytics; and performance creative.

We’re also Meta and Google Business Partners.

Our vision is for Bark.London to be a vehicle for our team to achieve what they want to achieve: personal & professional. We’ll support them (you!) in whatever that might be and recognise that it’s our job as an employer to give our team every opportunity to make their goals a reality.

We want to continue building an amazing place to work. A place where you can be yourself, do your best, and ultimately grow as both a person and a colleague. We do this through a supportive culture, flexible working, perks and continuous commitment to learning and development. See more on this below.

Part of becoming a great place to work is that we’re committed to including people of all backgrounds and experiences. That includes race, religion or belief, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, political affiliation, family or parental status. We want to hear from you!

WHY IS THIS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY? (why we’re even hiring)

Over the past three years, we’ve grown in size and reputation extremely quickly by hiring talented people who truly care about getting results for the businesses we partner with, then providing them with the tools, support and training they need to excel.

We’re a fast growing team that packs a punch and currently manages over 2x the annual spend of the “big 6” agencies on social alone.

We’re currently on pace to double in size again within the next 12 months – headcount estimated to be 40+ and we’re looking for someone who wants to join a quickly growing, well organised people-first business at an incredibly exciting and pivotal time of growth, whilst accelerating their own career.

This is a rare opportunity to join a rapidly growing company – without all the pitfalls of typical ‘startups’ – and personally impact the growth of businesses that are making a real difference.

OUR CLIENTS

99% of our clients are direct to consumer eCommerce brands and typically fall somewhere into the below categories:

> Fashion, apparel, jewellery

> FMCG

> Plants, greetings & misc. gifts

> Sports & fitness

> Subscriptions

Many are venture capital backed. Many are bootstrapped, founder owned & run. They all trust us to lead their growth.

Importantly, we ensure every client we sign is thoroughly vetted before we even offer to take them on. It’s important to us to grow the right way, with clients who we genuinely want to work with.

Here’s our criteria:

> They’ve got to pass the “lunch test”. They’ve got to be genuine, friendly people to work with. Would we want to hang out or go and have lunch with them? Great relationships breed great work, and we want to give you a supportive environment to work and grow in, not clients who are too demanding with high turnover.

> They’ve got to have a product(s) and brand we can get excited about as a team. Nothing worse than working on a brand you don’t believe in.

> They’ve got to be a proven concept and making sales already. Too many businesses think advertising will solve their issues, when in actual fact they need to work on their model, positioning, brand and offering before introducing significant traffic.

> They’ve got to want to grow and be in a position to support that growth. We partner with businesses to scale their customer acquisition, not just to push buttons in ad accounts.

If they fit this criteria and we want to work together, then we’ll go ahead, but only if we’re sure it will be a strong partnership and only if we’re confident we have the capacity and resource in the team to make it happen.

Just some of our clients (Paid Social, Google PPC, Attribution, Creative):

> Gorillas

> Patch Plants

> Tonies

> Dash Water

> Thread

> Not-Another-Bill

> Bleach London

> Baby2Body

> Hims

> Presscription

> Detox Kitchen

…amongst others

OUR TEAM

We’ve gone against the typical agency model and hired an extremely senior to mid-level team first. Logic being, it’s important to build a firm foundation: be in a position to actually provide a great service to clients, and provide consistent upskilling opportunities to the wider team as we grow.

Simon, Head of Performance: Led multiple global paid acquisition teams for the likes of Made.com, Simba Sleep, Just Eat, Uswitch. Incredibly practical & hands-on. Ensures results for each client we partner with. Always available for direct 1-1’s if you want to discuss anything or upskill.

Rachel, Head of Strategy & Client Services: Multiple in-house roles for small & large DTC eCommerce businesses focussing on the full performance suite: PPC, Social, CRM, CRO, Affiliates; Prog. Working with the growth team to ensure each client’s strategic aim is realised. Always available for direct 1-1’s if you want to discuss anything or upskill.

Alex, Data & Analytics Lead: PHD; Background in epidemiology research; has managed Facebook ads for Facebook tech partners, agencies and in-house; led Paid Media & Data at Mahabis. At Bark.London, he manages reporting and supports on Facebook strategy across all clients, and provides business science/analytics consultancy. Always available for direct 1-1’s if you want to discuss anything or upskill.

Growth Team: All incredibly strong on data, communication, creative and DTC strategy. As a team, they ensure our clients’ advertising is profitable and efficient as well as leading creative strategy and briefs to drive growth. They have a huge amount of freedom to advise the clients on what they should be doing, and have our full backing.

Creative: This team is expanding rapidly, designing and delivering performance creative that drives results using a mix of photography, videography, motion graphics, copywriting and much more.

Focus: as a business we currently offer four core services:

> Paid social

> Google PPC, including YouTube

> Consultancy across attribution, forecasting, analytics & strategy.

> Performance creative

Each of our team members is empowered to be a cross-channel specialist. Everyone works and communicates closely with each other at all levels of the business.

The Role

We’re looking for a Head of Growth to join us who is excited about taking on a new challenge and quickly growing with us as a business.

Day to day, you will be leading a pod of Growth Managers and Growth Executives with a core remit to oversee the performance marketing strategy (covering paid social, paid search, data & creative) for our clients’ businesses to ensure their long term growth.

Alongside being the lead strategic contact for your clients, you’ll also be part of the full client lifecycle, including leading pitches and onboarding new clients.

In a traditional agency, this role would be known as Account Director/ Group Account Director but given the role and how we integrate with our clients a Head of Growth title is more appropriate.

You must be switched on, commercial, empathetic, ambitious, a natural leader with a positive attitude and a desire to learn new things, as well as the ability to pick yourself and your team up after making mistakes.

Ideally you should have at least 6+ years’ experience in performance marketing, ideally in an eCommerce focused role, either agency or client side, with a core focus on paid social and paid search.

This is a pivotal role in the company as we continue to scale, and one where you’ll be instrumental in helping develop the talent within the agency itself too. You’ll be playing a vital role in helping grow not just BARK as a business but shaping some of the best high-growth ecommerce brands in the industry.

We have regular company socials, hangouts, events and meet-ups, with a real focus on maintaining our company culture. So if you’re enthused by being surrounded by a fun, high performing team doing some industry leading work who challenge and bring out the best in each other, we want to hear from you!

Here are some things you should know about how we work and what we expect as a team:

> Work smart and do work you’re proud of.

> Your time is your own. Manage it well.

> Our clients are our partners, always do the right thing for them.

> Always be learning.

> Embrace failure, we learn the most when we make mistakes.

> Get involved and enjoy yourself, life’s too short to take things too seriously.

WHAT THE TEAM ARE SAYING

A company that really cares about its employees

Pros

– Growing company with loads of room for progression and development.

– No silly long hours, I never find myself working super late like many other agencies expect.

– Great team, everyone is a true professional as well as being kind and fun to work with.

– I really feel the company cares for me! If I have ever have an issue with anything they attend to it immediately and make sure it’s sorted.

– Client-base is varied and fun, a nice mix of well established companies and exciting newer ones.

– Very transparent structure. No “senior secrets” that some companies have, everyone is in the loop.

– Always plans for a drink/social, team vibes are great

– Lots of freedom! Everyone is trusted to deliver their best work, no clocking-in/out or someone constantly checking on what you’re doing. This is a really nice environment to work in.

Cons

– Still a small company, so the office isn’t super bustling and vibrant yet. [We’ve doubled in size since this and the office is much more vibey with people in every day]

– Not many ongoing perks like gym memberships/free lunches etc. (another symptom of a small company)

– Workload can vary. You might jump from a super packed week to a very chilled one. (I personally don’t mind this eb and flow, but I know it can be difficult for some)

Advice to Management

The team is growing so fast it’s important to make sure that everyone continues to get the same support they’re currently offered.”

Friendly and rewarding place to work

Pros

Bark is a great place to work. Everyone is really friendly up to the senior management/founders making it a really inclusive place to work. Unlike other agencies to the clients that are onboarded are picked as we are able to work with them as partners rather than people just to build and optimise ads. We are often involved in their business planning, topline revenue and LTV which enables a great sense of satisfaction when you see a business grow – this has meant great client retention resulting in a really high standard of work over an extended period of time.

It is also a great place to progress with regular pay rises and a clear path to progress. There is also regular constructive feedback with managers as well as the opportunity to learn new platforms like Google, GA, Shopify etc. Everyone is approachable, meaning it’s a good place to learn from others as well as have a real team spirit, which is reflected in the regular team meetings, socials and just general chat in Slack!

The business as such is growing fast which is super exciting to be a part of, it’s doubled in size since I joined and with no signs of slowing down it’s an exciting future ahead. The founders are also very open with the pipeline so it’s clear that there is a regular flow of clients should we have the capacity to take them on!

I also find it great as it’s super flexible as we are able to work from home or go into the office in London.

Cons

Not a huge amount of cons but there has been a period where the workload was slower as the business grew and took more people on and clients were in the pitching stage. This has changed now and I feel is more a reflection of the industry rather than the company with a lot of the work coming in Q4.

There isn’t necessarily super structured training at the moment, so for learning new platforms or getting up to speed with ways of working so there could be an element more of that but I am someone who prefers to learn by doing mostly.

Advice to Management

Keep making it a great place to work by hiring the right people and taking on the right clients.”

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“Fab team to work with and have had great success scaling our business over the last 12 months!”

James Folger, founder The Stem

“We’ve worked with Bark for three months now and in that short time have been really impressed with not only their responsiveness, daily contact and approach to ad buying, but also their understanding of the full performance marketing picture. They’ve been a great asset in building out our data analysis for the business as a whole. Big thanks to Josh, Tom, Alex and the team.”

– Ellen, Head of Brand Detox Kitchen

“The team at Bark have been incredible to work with. They grew our business x10 in 12 months and 90% our marketing budget was spent with them. Very responsive, will go the extra mile and see the bigger picture. Highly recommend to anyone looking to scale fast from the start.”

Tom Whittle, founder Mission

“I have been working with Bark since January 2021 and have been extremely impressed by every aspect of the business. They are consistently testing, giving clear weekly updates on results and being proactive with creative strategy, which makes working with them extremely efficient and the results we are achieving reflect that. They don’t over complicate stuff and are a joy to work with. Would 100% recommend!”

Holly Crossley, Head of Ecommerce Dash Water

“Bark have been our agency for all Facebook advertising and helped steer us through a huge growth period. Without Bark we wouldn’t be the scale of business we are today. They’ve always acted with integrity, determination and intelligence – great partners to have when looking to scale fast and efficiently.”

Mark Patterson, Marketing Director Oddbox

“Working with Bark has been a pleasure, we’ve seen our online store revenues grow significantly since we started working with them back in 2018 and we continue to go from strength to strength. Even though we are a Q4 focussed brand we have seen significant lift in out of season revenue and profitability in both the online store and corporate gifting arms of the business, setting us up for long term, sustainable growth as a business.”

– Ned Corbett-Winder, Founder Not-Another-Bill
